(Ecuador CNSAM). Rev. Fernando Almeida and his family received tokens of appreciation and love from the students and administrative team of STNS (South American Nazarene Theological Seminary) during a special service on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, following his announcement of resignation as rector of the institution the day before.
The pastor of the North Coast District and president of the Board of Regents for STNS, Rocío Olimpia Foseca Ballesteros, shared a message from God’s Word entitled, “The Joy of Serving,” based on Matthew 20:28. Rev. Almeida was given a commemorative plaque, and the group of mission staff, students and co-workers shared a lunch together.
Liliana and Fernando Almeida along with their children Nicole and André came to live in Quito, Ecuador in 2011. They were both assigned to STNS with administrative and teaching duties. On March 9, 2013, Fernando was elected to be the new Seminary rector.
The Almeidas came to Argentina in 2005 and served in several roles on the South America Region. Fernando was the Missionary Personnel Coordinator and Global Mission Coordinator for the South America (SAM) Region. Liliana was Regional NMI (Nazarene Missions International) Coordinator and worked in the area of finances.
The decision to return to Portugal came after an invitation to continue ministering as missionaries, now with the European Nazarene College, in the formation of leaders for the Eurasia Region. Rev. Almeida commented, “This was not an easy decision. We took a prudent period of time to pray and seek the counsel of various Christians and church leaders, but God is the one who gave us the unequivocal certainty that this was the time to return using the same Bible passage He used in 2005 to confirm His will regarding our move to Argentina.”
“Their work style was becoming routine,” said one official. “They impacted the lives of the seminary residents so much that the 25th graduating class from last year was named for Lic. Liliana Almeida.”
