(Uruguay CNSAM). On September 14, 2013, the Church of the Nazarene was reopened in the city of Canelones on the Southern Uruguay District.
During the first months of the year, Estrella and Daniel Giordano arrived from Argentina and they accepted the challenge of reopening that church.
The church was inactive although it was one of those that had been in the country for more than 30 years. When Pastor Daniel saw the place where the church was located he said, “Aware of this we know that this house of God should be here for the community.”
After the parsonage was renovated, the Giordano family moved in to begin working in the community. A couple of prayer groups were established while they waited for the renovation of the church building.
On September 14, 2013, the church was reopened with a time of celebration in which pastors and brethren from different parts of the Southern Uruguay District participated. Among those present were the District Superintendent, Rev. Jesús Bernat, and the zone leader, Rev. Adhemar Charlin, who led the installation service for the new pastoral family and also the consecration of the church building as a place that will be a blessing for the city. “We have a lot of work ahead of us but we know that God is interested in this community,” said Pastor Charlin. In his message the District Superintendent, Rev. Jesús Bernat, said, “This door is once again open for the prodigal son to return home.”
