(Argentina CNSAM). On March 8, 2014, in the city of Esquel, in Chubut Province, Argentina, the Church of the Nazarene celebrated its tenth anniversary of existence in that place.
It was a very emotional time where children, youth, and adults celebrated by participating in plays, songs, and various manifestations of worship – a real party!
Pastors Luis Román and his wife Norma Lauría, pioneers and founders of this church, say that in 2002 they began traveling every month to Esquel from the city of Puerto Madryn (413 miles), to visit people who had met God in an evangelistic campaign. These new brothers in the faith needed a temple where they could congregate so, in a year, God granted this to them .
The Office of the Southern Cone area donated the land and the installation of gas since, in Esquel, the average temperature in winter is -30C. Luis and Norma with their young children, Federico and Matías, lived for almost two months in a tent in a campground, to be close and to prepare the ground well before the arrival of the 35 volunteers from a Work & Witness team from the United States that Juan David Acosta, the regional coordinator of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, brought to erect the building. All this sacrifice together made the temple finish quickly.
Today, remembering causes floods of gratitude, faith, and commitment to go for more. Starting with a congregation of four people, today there are 80-100 people and projects that to continue growing in quantity and quality.
