(Chile CNSAM). October 31, 2013, a conference for youth leaders was held at the Nazarene Bible Seminary in Santiago, Chile to commemorate the seminary’s anniversary. Around 60 young people from the different districts in Chile plus 13 youth visiting from Brazil’s central district participated in a conference called “Leaders for the 21st Century”.
The one-day conference began with a live video link from the United States with David González, the recently elected global NYI (youth) president, who greeted the group and challenged them to be an active part of God’s work while they are young. The speakers for the conference were: Luis Vera, a pastor for the Free Methodist Church with the theme “The Importance of Theological Education”; Rev. Alessandro Polonio, Nazarene missionary who shared: “A model youth pastor”; and Rev. Oscar Varas, Nazarene Bible Seminary president who spoke on “The need for new proposals.” The series of talks ended with a worship service where the message was brought by Edmur Penteado, youth pastor for the Church of the Nazarene in Campinas, Brazil and coordinator for the youth of his district. After the conference the group from Brazil stayed an extra three days visiting churches and participating in three evangelistic events in and around Santiago, Chile.
The conference organizers thank and recognize the effort it took for many of the youth to attend the conference, and they praise God for the new generation of leaders emerging. They also recognize the challenge that lies ahead as they assist in the formation of men and women prepared for ministry today.
