(Bolivia CNSAM). August 12, 2014, in the city of La Paz, Rev. Nolverto Vicuña Yujra went to be with the Lord at 6:30 in the morning.
Nolverto Vicuña Yujra was born in the Department of La Paz in the town of Corocoro on June 6, 1920. While serving in the military when he was 19 years old, he gave his heart to Jesus one night in the barracks. This was on the mountain of Chaco, on the border of Bolivia and Paraguay. At 26 years of age, he entered local leadership, and in the year 1947 at the age of 27 he took his first pastorate in the town of General Pérez, on the border with Chile.
Bro. Nolverto was one of the first Bolivian pastors of the Church of the Nazarene. He was ordained in 1970 by Dr. Jerald D. Johnson in the Winchester Church of the Nazarene of La Paz, Bolivia. In addition to planting six churches in La Paz and four in rural areas, he was the first elected district superintendent in the country. He served 52 years in pastoral ministry and 5 years as a Sunday School teacher in his later years.
Reverend Vicuña earned a Bachelor of Arts from CEMA (Centros de Educación Media de Adultos) and served as an interim school teacher and as an assistant nurse.
This year he celebrated 75 years of marriage to Margarita Tarqui (who passed away in July 2014). Together, they had six children: María Antonieta, Enrique, Marcela, Arminda, Benjamín y Abraham. He enjoyed 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
The Church of the Nazarene in Bolivia and the world thank God and glorify Him for the life and ministry of his servant Nolverto, in whom they recognize that his mission was accomplished!
