(Argentina CNSAM). In July of 2015, new coordinators were appointed for Women’s Ministries and Nazarene Missions International on the South America region. Rev. Wagner Maia Torres Nunes is the new coordinator for Women’s Ministries and Rev. Alessandro Polonio of Nazarene Missions .
Pastor Nunes is a Nazarene university grad from Brazil, as well as hospital chaplain and family psychiatrist. Since 1981 she has been serving alongside her husband Rev Geraldo Nunes in the ministry. To date they have pastored six churches, of which God allowed them to start three including the Church Of the Nazarene Castelo, where they have been for the last four years. In 2009 she served as national coordinator for women’s ministries and after a year they were able to hold the first ever women’s conference in which around 2000 women from all around Brazil participated. That conference spurred them on to hold three more at different places in Brazil. Today pastor Wagner says yes to this new responsibility and says, “I am grateful to serve in the women’s ministry which certainly is a great challenge to do here in South America. Women play an important role and influence in society, family and the church”.
Rev. Polonio began his pastoral ministry in the Church Of the Nazarene Central de Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Then he served for 12 years in the Church Of the Nazarene of Soussa, where he got involved on the Sudeste Paulista district NMI organizing short term missions trips to different places around Brazil until he felt called to be a full time regional missionary. Since 2013 he serves with his family in Chile as (CIM) Coordinator as well as Superintendent of the Los lagos District, among other responsibilities.
Both pastors recognize that they face a new and great challenge to which, with their dependency and encouragement in God, they say: “Here am I Lord”.
