(Argentina NCNSAM). Argentina’s first National NYI Congress was held in the city of Pilar from January 24 – 28, 2012 at the Cono Sur Nazarene Seminary.
The event numbered 260 participants including teenagers, youth, NYI council members, pastors and superintendents from the following districts: NEA, NOA, Cuyo, North Patagonia, South Central Patagonia, Central, Litoral and Mesopotámico.
“If We Believe Together We Can” taken from John 11:40, was the event’s theme. The Congress was focused on youth ministry leaders as well as the group of young people who make up our local churches through parallel programs that seek to train and develop the NYI in specific topics needed by the ministry. In the afternoons and evenings the participants enjoyed various programs.
Opening night was coordinated by the Litoral District with the guest speaker Jorge Santos, the NYI President from the North Patagonia District. The second day was coordinated by the North Patagonia District including Pastors Geraldo and Waner Nunes of Brazil as speakers. The third night included a spectacular party called “Noche de las Gaviotas” (Night of the Seagulls) where the entire NYI gathered for the opportunity to experience a wholesome party with values and principles.
Friday night’s “Love for Our Own” was a social activity designed to express the lost values of our cultural identity and to rediscover what it means to be Argentinean, communicating a message of blessing for the people invited from the communities of Pilar and Derqui.
During the morning’s closing service there was a very special time of communion with a motivating message from Rev. Juan José Zani, the Cono Sur Field Strategy Coordinator. The event closed in the afternoon with a special time of music and recital coordinated by the NYI of the Central District with a message from Rev. Anna Melva Chávez, the NYI National Coordinator.
We are grateful for the support of Youth Specialties, and the pastors and superintendents who gave their support taking part in the congress in training, panels, plenary sessions, workshops and preaching. Thanks to the national NYI team made up of our NYI Presidents and leaders who served to carry out national and district activities, and to Communications Ministries who offered their support and time to help make our Congress possible.
The National NYI Coordinator, Rev. Anna Melva Chávez said: “To see teenagers and young people go to the altar to make wise decisions for their lives and ministries has made our effort worthwhile and encourages us to continue. January 2014 awaits us to return to be part of the Second National NYI Congress of Argentina.”
