(Argentina CNSAM) As part of the aerobic march for the anniversary of the city of Neuquén, Argentina, on September 29, 2012 in Central Park Patinódromo, a child’s charity race was held, “POR ELLOS” (FOR THEM).
The event had three age categories (6 & 7 year olds, 8 & 9 year olds, and 10 & 11 year olds), with prizes for the first three places of each category and presents for all the participants. The registration requirement of the 38 participants was a non-perishable food item for community soup kitchens in the city. The management of the city sports collaborated in the planning and a private company donated the prizes.
Before the races, church young people led all the runners in a warm-up session. At the end of the races Martín Gómez, co-pastor of the church, “La Misión” (The Mission) in the city of Villa Allende, Cordoba, city director of culture and founder of the solidarity academy of arts (www.academiasolidaria.org.ar) shared a message referring to solidarity. During the activity the young people passed out tracts, had conducted surveys and registered contacts of people for whose needs they offered to pray.
“The main objective of the activity was to establish points of contact with the society and public and private agencies in order to testify and plant the seeds of the Word of God”, said Jorge Santos, Patagonia North NYI District President.
That evening, the teens and youth from the church participated in an evangelism workshop called GOOD NEWS. The objective was to reflect on the mission of the church, develop strategies, resources and vision. Pastor Eduardo Martinez; NYI leaders: Dario Flores and Jorge Santos; Anna Melva Chávez, national NYI coordinator; and Martin Gomez all participated helping the 80 participants to better embody God’s mission, effect a self-assessment, evaluate their environment, and prepare to be an active part of the work of God in their city.
Commenting on the event, brother Jorge Santos, Patagonia North District NYI President, said: “During the entire year the District NYI has planned events two other times: one was outreach and the other was aimed towards those inside the church, this is the third and last event of the year 2012.”
