(Peru CNSAM). Saturday, April 20, 2013, was a very special day for Peruvians with the presentation of the book, History of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru written by pastor Alberto Zamora Lisboa.
The ceremony was held at the Brranco, Lima, Peru Church of the Nazarene. It was attended by pastors, families and fellow Nazarenes that joined the denominations in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Also attending were Rev. Ricardo Rodriguez, the North District Superintendent; Dr. Evelio Vasquez, the president of the Nazarene Theological Seminary and Pedro Ferreira Garcia, the director of the Pacific Group of Communications.
The presentation and comments about the book were provided by different speakers: Nilda Ferreira, architect, referred to the first part, the Pioneer Period, 1914-1926; Rev. Oscar Suarez Becerra commented on the second part, The Formative Period, 1926-1950; Rev. Luciano Grillo talked about the third part, the Consolidation Period, 1950-1976 and Rev Marcial Rubio spoke on the fourth part, the Expansion Period, 1976 –present. Rev. Alberto Zamora, author of the work, concluded with a reflection: “Vision and Calling”.
Then Rev. Ricardo Rodriguez expressed greetings and congratulations form the North District to pastor Alberto Zamora for delivering this valuable work. Dr. Evelio Vazquez also did the same on behalf of the Nazarene Theological Seminary and stated that this work will serve to fortify the identity and values of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru. The director of the Pacific Group highlighted the great friendship that unites him with pastor Zamora and he congratulated him on making a great contribution to evangelical literature that will bless the Christian people.
Referring to this work, renowned theologian, Dr. Samuel Escobar, expressed, “the book is a valuable contribution to the knowledge of the present and the extension of the evangelical witness especially in Northern Peru. It is an historical summary of the presence of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru, written with the passion and the warmth of one who has been a protagonist of this important movement.”
Dr. Dario Lopez, former president of the National Evangelical Council of Peru, said, “The reading of this book is a must, not only for the members of the Church of the Nazarene, but for the whole evangelical community that urgently needs to know their roots in order to galvanize their identity as the people of God in mission.”
Pastor Alberto Zamora, was born in Pacasmayo, Libertad Department, is a minister in the Church of the Nazarene with 50 years of official service and 10 years serving on various district boards as a retired minster. He is married to Luisa Guerrero Gavidia and has a daughter, Ana Maria, who is also a minister of the Gospel. In his long ministerial career he has traveled the country from the North to the South, from the cost to the highlands and the jungle founding and strengthening churches.
For Peruvians, the production of this work is a source of great joy, as it comes out on the eve of the celebration (next year) of the 100 year anniversary of the beginnings of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru with the arrival of the missionary, Roger Winans.
