SDMI Peru 2014

(Peru CNSAM). From November 14-19, 2014, the Church of the Nazarene in Lima, Peru, made history.

The Central District of the Church of the Nazarene in Peru met for the SDMI (Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries International) Convention, and for “Tell THE Story” training with the presence of the Global Director of SDMI, Dr. Woodie Stevens who traveled from Kansas, EUA, along with his wife, Cheryl, and Ángel Sigui, interpreter.

The activities began on the 14th in the district office with a conference given by Dr. Stevens for discipleship leaders, pastors and teachers.

On Saturday the 15th the main program of the Convention was held in the Barranco Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Eli Porras Salinas, district president of SDMI, welcomed the convention delegates and presented Dr. Stevens for the plenary session entitled “More Than Just on Sunday”. Dr. Stevens’ message challenged all who were present. An interesting, participatory and thought-provoking panel discussion was then presented with the theme “Education and the Role of the Church”. The panelists were: Eduardo Nayap, Congressman of the Republic of Peru, and Dr. Macario Balcazar, SDMI president of the North District.

The convention service was motivating. Karin Rojas directed the group in singing children’s songs, inviting the district leaders to become as children, including Dr. Woodie. One delegate described it as “An exceptional convention service!” At the close of the convention the district business session began.

November 17-19 were dedicated to “Tell THE Story” training. This was the first time this preparation had been offered in Peru. There were 45 people at the training workshop to learn how to tell stories with this method. The majority of district leaders expressed that the participation passed the original expectations.

The district team thanked Dr. Woodie Stevens, his wife, Cheryl, and Brother Ángel Sigui for their efforts to train the leaders. The group of leaders included pastors, but mostly lay leaders or Sunday School teachers of the Lima Churches of the Nazarene. At the end of the training program certificates were presented to the participants. It was an unforgettable and inspiring time for the leaders of the Peruvian Central District.
