(Chile CNSAM). On Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 66 years of age, Rev. Alfredo Veloso Gallego, went to be in the presence of God, due to the poor health of his liver, from which developed an internal hemorrhage.
The life of pastor Veloso is a testimony of service and commitment. He was born in a rural area of Chile called Padre las Casas on December 23, 1949. At 22 years of age he married Francisca Perez. At 25 years of age, after a life marked by social struggles and the revolutionary movements of that time in Chile, both of them converted to the gospel through missionary Boyd Skinner in an evangelistic campaign in the Church of the Nazarene in San Luis in Macul in Santiago, Chile.
He quickly entered into the ministry, since his life was completely transformed by the Lord, and that same year that he was converted he was assigned as a pastor. In a short time he was ordained as an elder in the Church of the Nazarene. At 27 years of age he was the Superintendent of the Chile Central District, a charge he held until 1994. From there, he went to be the Superintendent of the Chile Los Lagos District.
Reverend Veloso pastored the following churches: the Macul San Luis Church of the Nazarene in Santiago, Chile (Central District); the Vitacura Villa el Dorado Church of the Nazarene in Santiago, Chile (Central District); and lastly for almost 12 years he pastored the Villa Galicia Church of the Nazarene in Temuco (Los Lagos District); and for the last year he was in charge of the Labraza Church of the Nazarene (Los Lagos District). He is also credited for having begun the district youth camps, first in the Central District and later in the Los Lagos District.
Pastor Veloso was a prominent professor of theology both in the Seminario Bilblico Nazareno as well as in other Nazarene Seminaries.
In spite of his ailing health, he ministered until the last of his days. With a ministry of 40 years and 38 years as Superintendent, reverend Veloso was one of the first national Superintendents in the South American Region with the most years in this position.
Those who knew him, acknowledge his outstanding wisdom and his great pastoral heart. He leaves his great love and companion, his wife, Francisca Perez, and despite of not having their own children, they have many spiritual children that will miss him today.
His funeral was held on Sunday, January 11, in the Galicia Church of the Nazarene where he pastored. There was a very large gathering, which was attended, by pastors and leaders of the Chile districts in order to say: See you later, pastor Veloso.
