(Peru CNSAM). November 29 & 30, 2013, Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries Intl. (SDMI) of the Peru Central District celebrated their 29th convention in the city of Lima. The main activities were in the facilities of Lima’s Church of the Nazarene of Barranco.
A real sense of expectancy was felt among the pastors, Sunday School & Discipleship leaders and guests attending the conference, especially during the opening session led by Dr. Patricia Picavea, SDMI Coordinator for the South America Region. One reason for the anticipation was the formal beginning of the ministry for married couples CAFÉ on the Central Peru District.
Saturday, the 30th, was full of activities. Pastor Elí Porras Salinas, District SDMI president, welcomed everyone, and later they enjoyed the plenary session “Discipleship and Ministry.” There were then three workshops held simultaneously: 1. Nazarene Publishing House presentation of literature they produce (After explaining some of the materials available, they offered the 2014 Sunday School materials for sale.); 2. explanation of how the administration of SDMI is directed by the local Councils; 3. “In Search of the 100th Sheep”-child evangelism workshop, especially geared toward teachers who have schools by extension outside the church.
In the inspirational service, the message of challenge was brought by the special guest for the occasion, Dr. Patricia Picavea. The event was also attended by Mery Teodora Castañeda, National SDMI Coordinator. In the business meeting the council members presented their report, including a delegation that participated in the Global Convention celebrated in June 2013 in Indianapolis, IN.
In a context of celebration, the Convention voted for Pastor Elí Porras Salinas to continue presiding over the SDMI District Council and for the same district council members to continue serving, as well. Those who attended the event were trained, motivated and inspired.
