(Uruguay CNSAM). On January 18, 2015, the 53rd District Assembly of Uruguay South was held in Montevideo. The North District Assembly was held on January 10.
On January 18 the District Assembly began at 9:30 AM with reports from the ordained and licensed ministers. After a short recess for lunch, General Superintendent Dr. Jerry Porter, who presided at the assembly, shared about the importance of planting churches throughout the country in order to spread the kingdom of God. Next the District Superintendent, Rev. Jesús Bernat, gave his report in which he presented a brief summary of the ministerial work of the district. During his report he presented the 16 new preaching points and mission-type churches and 2 new organized churches. The persons in charge of the preaching points came to the front holding signs with the name of their preaching point.
Next they proceeded to the legislative part of the assembly with 94 delegates present to elect the new members of the Advisory Board, the Board of Ministerial Credentials and the Board of Ministerial Studies.
This assembly was special with the election of a new district superintendent who will hold office for two years. The assembly voted for an ordained elder who would assume this office upon the completion of the term of the present superintendent. On the third ballot Rev. Adhemar Charlin was elected with two thirds of the vote.
The Rector of the Nazarene Theological Seminary of the South Cone, Dr. Jorge Julca and Rev. Pablo Tello shared with the assembly the importance of training leadership for the church.
The high note of this annual celebration was the Ordination Service with Dr. Jerry Porter, General Superintendent and Regional Director, Dr. Christian Sarmiento, presiding. In the solemn ceremony officiated by Dr. Jerry Porter, the following ministers were ordained in the Church of the Nazarene: Rev. Arturo Gasca and his wife, Andra Vidarte, who are pastoring the Barros Blancos Church of the Nazarene in Southern Uruguay.
Let us pray that in this coming year we can carry out the commission that God has placed in our hands.
